Alison Hall

Die Arbeiten von Alison Hall Hall (*1980 in Martinsville, VA, USA, lebt und arbeitet in New York, USA) zeugen nicht nur von einer intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit der jüngeren amerikanischen Kunstgeschichte, sondern auch von einer tiefen Verbundenheit mit der Geschichte der Malerei, insbesondere mit italienischen Fresken des 13. Jahrhunderts.

Ihre Tafeln sind aus einer Vielzahl von fein geschliffenen Lagen Gipses aufgebaut und mit Schwarz oder dunklen Blautönen grundiert. Die Oberflächen weisen eine enorme Feinheit und Sinnlichkeit auf. Mit Graphit werden in filigranen Mustern gleichsam ein Stück ihrer Lebenszeit, ihrer Erinnerungen und Erfahrungen eingeschrieben. Es entsteht ein komplexes Bild, das sich je nach Standpunkt des Betrachters ständig zu verändern scheint. Immer wieder tauchen in diesen scheinbar nach Perfektion strebenden Mustern kleine Unregelmäßigkeiten und Störungen auf. Größere Partien sind nicht ausgearbeitet, als würde sich Alison Hall mit aller Macht der absoluten Schönheit ihrer Bilder widersetzen.
